New voices, new visions, new stories. Together with Girls in Film, we’re kicking off the summer with a vibrant selection of short films by directors from The Czech Republic and Slovakia — inspiring and full of talent.

ANOTHER ROUND (Czech Republic)

Director: Olga Zounarová | Producer: Michelle Lazarte Pedrazas |
Star: Isabel Corado Ramis, Marlen Hüllstrunk, Nelda Martinez Izquierdo
Year: 2025 | Length: 4 min | Live Action |

Three young girls have to say goodbye to the present moment. This short coming-of-age film tries, in a subtle way, to show the feelings associated with the moments when we have to say goodbye to something and move on. Parting is inevitable, whether it is a study trip, a summer or childhood itself.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT COMES NEXT (Czech Republic)

Directors: Michaela Kozáková, Veronika Poslední | Producer: FAMU |
Star: Helena Brychtová, Hana Strnadová, Regina Kořínková |
Year: 2024 | Length: 13 min | Live Action |

Three eccentric elderly ladies embark on a journey with an unclear destination. As the influence of their strangely skewed, environmentally disturbed surroundings grows, their inner frustration with their personal failures and with each other gradually escalates. The story is set in a near fictional future that is shrouded in a fairytale-like magical atmosphere while reflecting the crises of today's world. Toxicity here comes not only from mobile phone screens, but also from natural resources - water, soil and the fruits of the local landscape.

DELULU (Czech Republic)

Director: Karolína Beranová | Producer: Karolína Hrubá |
Star: Natálie Vágnerová, Jan Svatbík |
Year: 2024 | Length: 8 min | Live Action |

Delulu's short film follows the tender Natalie as she spirals into a romantic view of relationships, and an inability to cut the toxic ones off. Using stylized cinematography and alternating perspectives, including VHS footage with a friend behind the camera, the film reveals her inner Deluso world. The film targets those looking for subtle stories that resonate with their personal experiences and offer reflections on relationships with self and others.

Stone of Destiny (Czech Republic)

Star: Julie Černá | Producer: Kristina Husová |
Year: 2025 | Length: 11 min | Animated film |

The animated musical follows the journey of the anthropomorphized Stone of Destiny. On a path filled with mysterious encounters and hidden symbols, he is driven by a desire for freedom. Singing Stone is accompanied not only by a newfound freedom, but also by a fear of failure. He settles in a seaside villa, followed by shadows of doubt, but even here he finds no solace. The narrative, which explores themes of understanding, beauty and loneliness, is based on the personal experiences of author Julie Černá.

Nights and Days (Slovakia)

Director: Daniela Sláviková | Producer: Jakub Matlovič |
Star: Sára Gál, Jana Kvantíková, Filip Pavúk, Ingrid Hrubaničová |
Year: 2024 | Length: 7 min | Live Action |

Nights and Days is a brief exploration of the joys and struggles of girlhood, focusing on the lives of two sisters who, through intimate dialogue in a hotel room, reveal the secrets of their relationship, their first menstruation, their first sexual experiences, and a fateful sentence that has forever remain etched in the memory of the younger sister.

Avitaminosis (Czech Republic, Ukraine)

Director: Kateryna Ruzhyna | Producer: Kateryna Ruzhyna |
Year: 2022 | Length: 26 min | Documentary film |

The labor market during the pandemic pushes Kateryna to work in a fraudulent call centre that sells vitamins that promise ‘magical’ success to its consumers. Months of isolation, irritated customers and frustration cause her to have avitaminosis.

HUN TUN (Czech Republic, France)

Director: Magdalena Hejzlarová | Producer: Karolína Davidová |
Year: 2025 | Length: 15 min | Experimental film |

A young woman measures her strength against the king of chaos himself. The more she wants to win, the less she succeeds. Through a mythological story, the author looks back to the time when she
discovered that there are things in life she will never control.

Total length of the screening 84 min. In original language with Czech and English subtitles.
